Verstappen's future unclear amid 2021 change

Max Verstappen‘s manager says the Red Bull’s future moves remain shrouded in doubt thanks to Formula 1’s impending regulation revamp.

Like many drivers, including the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel, Verstappen’s deal expires at the end of 2020, raising hopes of a blockbuster driver market next season.

Mercedes have twice previously made attempts to sign Verstappen and his father, former F1 racer Jos, has claimed that Red Bull’s ability to deliver a title-winning car could well decide the 22-year-old’s next move.

Max will have Jos and manager Raymond Vermuelen on hand to help plot his future course, with the new rules making it a tricky decision.

“The three of us put the pieces of the puzzle together, looking at the short, medium and long term,” Vermuelen told

“The question [for 2021] is: how is the car? Nobody knows.

“It is one large crystal ball at the moment. You can of course look at how a team has performed in the past and how they have dealt with changes before, but I think it is now up to Red Bull and Honda to see how the new rules fit them.

“The other teams also have very good people. I think 2021 will be an interesting season.”
