Kimi Raikkonen has been disqualified from qualifying for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix after his Alfa Romeo was found to flout technical regulations. The front wing of Raikkonen’s car failed a deflection test during scrutineering.
In all likelihood, Raikkonen will join Pierre Gasly and Robert Kubica in starting from the pit-lane.
A stewards’ report said a check on Raikkonen’s car found that the “front wing flap deflected more than 5mm under a load of 60 N.”
If Alfa have to change the front wing, it will break parc ferme rules – the punishment for which is generally a pit-lane start.
The Finn has scored points in all three races so far this season, indeed his 12-point haul makes up all of Alfa’s scores so far this year.
Antonio Giovinazzi had qualified eighth in Baku, but will start 18th after taking a new control electronics.
