Renault agree to early Sainz release

Renault have allowed Carlos Sainz to join McLaren early by letting him test for the Woking team in Abu Dhabi.

Following the season finale on Sunday, the teams will stay set up at the Yas Marina circuit to take part in two days of Pirelli tyre testing on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Red Bull have effectively frozen Daniel Ricciardo out of action by not letting him test for them or his new team Renault. But, the Enstone team have no issues in letting Sainz join up with his new team.

The Spaniard will get his first experience of the McLaren car on Wednesday, once his 2019 team-mate Lando Norris takes the MCL33 for another spin on Tuesday.

Another 2019 line-up in Robert Kubica and George Russell have been confirmed for the test by Williams, while Lance Stroll will hop into the Force India car ahead of his 2019 move.

Kimi Raikkonen is expected to test for Sauber, while Charles Leclerc will be in action for Ferrari alongside his 2019 team-mate Sebastian Vettel.

Pierre Gasly has been confirmed by Red Bull to test for them in Abu Dhabi.

All teams are strictly forbidden to run new parts on their cars in the two-day test, with focus purely on the Pirelli tyres that will be in use next season.
