Both Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button finished on the podium at the 6 Hours of Shanghai in the World Endurance Championship.
However, neither of them could top the #7 Toyota Gazoo Racing car, driven by Mike Conway, Jose Maria Lopez and former F1 driver, Kamui Kobayashi.
Alonso and his #8 Toyota team, featuring former F1 racers Sebastian Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima, finished the Shanghai race in P2, around the same circuit used for the Chinese Grand Prix.
JB helped SMP Racing to their first podium of the 2018/19 WEC super season, alongside Mikhail Aleshin and another former F1 man, Vitaly Petrov.
The Toyota team needed to get the 1-2 in China, after being disqualified from the 6 Hours of Silverstone race back in August.
Alonso, Buemi and Nakajima now lead the Drivers’ Championship by just six points from their Toyota team-mates.
There is a long gap before the next WEC race, which takes place in mid-March, the 1000 Miles of Sebring.
