Although acknowledging that it is “still early days” in their relationship with Honda, Christian Horner says Red Bull have been “encouraged” by what they’ve seen from the engine manufacturer.
One year after Toro Rosso took up with Honda, Red Bull will be following suit in 2019.
The Milton Keynes squad announced earlier this year that their partnership with Renault will end at the conclusion of this season, swapping instead to Honda power.
However, Honda’s return to Formula 1 has been anything but smooth sailing.
After three difficult years with McLaren, their first with Toro Rosso has seen signs of progress in terms of speed and reliability although it has been by no means perfect.
Horner, though, is ready to make the change.
“We are encouraged by what we’re seeing,” said the Red Bull team boss.
“It’s still early days but there is a very strong desire within Honda.
“It’s great to be working in a partnership.
“We are looking forward to the next chapter for Red Bull Racing, but before that we’ve got six races to close out with our existing partner.”
